A Few Honest Thoughts on Sustainability
We get asked, sometimes, what Lemon Straps does for sustainability. The honest answer: we're still building this, and we don't want to pretend it's solved. So instead of promises, here's how we actually think about it.
We weigh three things — profit, people, planet. Profit comes first, because it keeps the business alive long enough for the rest to matter. People come right after — they're who make the product real. Planet is the line we design within, even when it isn't the headline.
On people: we believe in working with the best, and paying them what that's worth. We'd rather have a small team that's well looked after than grow fast. The same goes for who we work with externally. Rather than juggling dozens of suppliers, we shortlist and partner directly with a handful of manufacturers and artisans in Dongguan — a region genuinely excellent at this craft, with a level of skill that's hard to match. We chose them because that skill is real, and it deserves to be paid for properly. Working direct means the price we pay goes to them — not to an agent taking a cut in between.
On planet: we design our collection and supply chain for distance and durability. We use stainless steel because it lasts — fewer bands ending up in a drawer or a landfill, more of them just staying on your wrist. We also keep our warehouse close to the manufacturer in Dongguan, so the product doesn't sit waiting or travel further than it needs to. For example, a California order shipped this way covers about 11,600 km. Routing it through London first would add almost 1.6 times the distance. For customers further out, like Singapore, Hong Kong, or Australia, that detour would be even worse. That's why most orders go straight from our warehouse to you — fewer stops, less waste, faster to your door.
We don't think we've earned the right to call ourselves a "sustainable brand" — not yet, anyway. But we like where this is heading, and we hope you'll feel that too, every time you wear Lemon Straps.
